Fast almost flat water. Passage through Bruin is drab. Good access in town at park. Below South Branch, it enters wooded gorge and consists of great whitewater with pools and rapids. Rapids formed by sloping ledges and boulders. [Reported 1993] Difficulties: Many strainers, including pipes and cables in upper section with only a few in lower section. Best rapid is just above T723 bridge, a twisting chute with undercut boulder on left. Shuttle: Put in at the bridge where Story Road crosses the creek. To find the put‑in, turn south from State Route 268 in Bruin onto Washington Street. Follow Washington for about 1 mile to the intersection with Story Road. Turn left/east on Story Road and go a short distance to the bridge. There is no access at the mouth of the stream. One can paddle 1.0 mile upstream on the Allegheny River to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Access area in Parker. To get to this take‑out, continue north on State Route 268 to Parker. Gauge: None. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt. |
